Americans sometimes celebrate our nation’s birthday too much

On Behalf of | Jun 30, 2017 | Personal Injury Law

For many, July 4 means sitting on the curb on your town’s Main Street watching the band march by and saluting our veterans. For others, it means laying out a blanket and watching the sky light up at night with a fireworks display. For many others, it means sharing the afternoon with family and friends enjoying hotdogs, burgers and maybe a few beers.

For many however, it might be a few beers too many. Each year, holidays tend to show an increase of drunk driving related arrests and accidents. Police are aware of this, and often take proactive measures with social campaigns and public service announcements reminding people to not drink and drive. But inevitable some people still do. Although police typically increase patrols on the roads and may even set up check points to find drunk drivers, some still are out there. And accidents could be catastrophic or even deadly.

Each year, thousands of accidents, injuries and deaths throughout the country are related to people driving under the influence. It could be you who was responsible and acted as designated driver but was at the wrong place at the wrong time and found yourself involved in a car accident with a drunk driver.

If you have been involved in any type of car accident, you may be entitled to compensation. This could include not only compensation for your medical expenses and rehabilitation costs, but also money for pain and suffering and lost wages. It may be in your best interests to speak with a lawyer familiar with personal injury law to see whether you could be entitled to compensation.
