I Won’t Be Back – Schwarzenegger and Shriver Separate

On Behalf of | May 12, 2011 | Divorce

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, the couple that was already famous and successful when they married in 1986, then became even more successful over the next 25 years, have announced that they are separating.

Pittsburgh divorce attorneys noted that the couple recently ended their time as governor and first lady of the nation’s most populous state. Shriver has since reportedly moved out of the family home. The couple has four children, and both of them say that they will continue to raise the children jointly.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver said in a joint statement that they are going to “decide on the future of their relationship” while living apart.

The reasons for the separation have not been released, except to say that it was a mutual decision. The couple has said that they hope to keep the matter private.

Their statement said, in part, “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together.”

When the couple met, she was a correspondent for NBC News and he was a famous body builder and movie star.

Despite what might have been differences in political outlook, the couple rose in California politics to become governor and first lady in 2003.

Even though April marked the couple’s 25th anniversary, some observers say that the occasion was downplayed, and the couple has been living separate lives for some time.
