Charlie Sheen Seeks, But Does Not Get, Full Custody of Boys

On Behalf of | Apr 19, 2011 | Child Custody

Charlie Sheen and his soon-to-be ex-wife Brooke Mueller reached a child custody agreement last month, in which Mueller has primary custody of the couple’s two children, Bob and Max. However, Mueller recently refused to take a drug test that was a condition of the child custody arrangement. Shortly after, it was announced publicly that Mueller would be going to rehab.

Based on Mueller’s apparent return to drug abuse, which both she and Sheen have indulged in in the past, Sheen sought to change the child custody arrangement and gain full custody for himself. At an emergency hearing this morning, Sheen presented his case, but the judge opted to make no change to the child custody arrangement.

Mueller had no comment after the hearing, but was winking at reporters, smiling and hugging her child custody attorney. Sheen reportedly left the courthouse quietly, surrounded by a somber entourage.

Pittsburgh child custody lawyers following news of the hearing noted that Sheen was seeking custody of the boys, and a cessation of all child support, which has been set at $55,000 a month.

In an unusual twist, Sheen’s other ex-wife, Denise Richards supposedly offered to care for the twin boys until the custody matter is resolved. Sheen reportedly told her that he would “keep her posted” on the situation.

In her court filings submitted before the March custody agreement, Mueller was frank in her admission of a history of drug abuse. She said, though, that she was attending a day program and living with a sober companion. Her mother would assist her with caring for the two boys, according to the filings.

Until recently, Mueller and the boys were actually living with Sheen and his two girlfriends. While Sheen, Mueller, the boys, and the two girlfriends were all on vacation together in the Bahamas, Sheen apparently became violent and punched Mueller. She claims he spat on her feet and threatened to stab her with a small knife.

Sheen said in a recent interview that he is not worried that his sons might later have a low opinion of him. He said, “They’ll wake up one day and realize how cool Dad is. And, you know, signs all the checks on the front, not the back. And you know, we need him and we need his wisdom and his bitchin’-ness.”
