Marriage and Divorce – The Role of the Wife

On Behalf of | Jan 20, 2014 | Divorce

The scriptures states in Ephesians 5:22-23 “Wives, submit yourselves to your husband as you do to The Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, his body, of which he is the Savior.”

The key here is the word “submit”. Misunderstanding of the true meaning of the word has been a source of much problem in many marriages leading to divorce. Let’s look at the definition of submit: 1) To yield to the authority of
another; 2) To prefer the judgments or directions of another; 3) To yield to the option of leading in or to follow; 4) The ability to bring out the best in others by yielding to their options or suggestions.

Submitting has to do with yielding, not being dominated, controlled, being pushed around or allowing the husband to exercising such control where the wife is no longer free to express and exercise her will.

The are three areas of true submission on the part of the wife, as unto The Lord, as is right and in order to win him to her point of view on issues that will make their marriage better.
