Underage Drinking: Who Really Pays?

School has just let out and it's graduation party season. Kids will be celebrating their accomplishments and parents will be hosting big celebrations in their child's honor. So what happens when the kids get a little out of hand and have some drinks at the party you're hosting? If minors get caught for underage drinking, they are subject to Pennsylvania's underage drinking laws. For a first offense, the minor could be subject to a fine up to $300, up to 90 days in jail and a 90 day suspension of his/her driver's license.

Defending Your Home and Family - But Officer, it was Self-Defense!

There has been no bigger legal issue placed under the microscope in the previous months than Florida's new "stand your ground" law. Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard the name Trayvon Martin. He was killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, after the two encountered each other on the street one evening. According to Florida's new law, a person is justified in using force against another when the person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to defend himself against another person's imminent use of unlawful force. However, if a person reasonably believes that deadly force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm, he or she may use deadly force for protection from that harm or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony.

Child Custody in a Divorce - Compromise or Court?

One of the most difficult issues to handle during a divorce is child custody. Parents that are getting a divorce have some hard decisions to make considering the future of their relationship with their children. For instance, now that we are going to live in separate homes, should we both live within the same school district? How many nights can I spend with the children considering my work schedule? Who should take the kids to soccer practice? I think that everyone can agree that these decisions are best left to the parents to decide.

Underage Drinking - A Parents Graduation Party Dilemma

It is high school graduation time and parents are faced with the dilemma of whether to have a graduation party for their graduate in which alcohol will be present. Some parents try to rationalize and find ways to provide alcohol to the kids as a way for the youths to participate in the festivities.

Child Custody: Whose best interest?

Speaking as an experienced Pittsburgh Divorce Attorney, divorce isn't easy for anyone. When children are involved, the break-up can be especially difficult. Not only have two adults decided to end their relationship with one another, but now their children will be split between the two new households. Usually, both parents love their children equally and both want to spend as much time as possible with the kids. With both Mom and Dad vying for time with their children, and only so many hours in the day, how does a Judge decide how the children's time should be divided?
